968 Porsche

The Porsche 968 simply means the legacy of the Porsche 944 gets to live on. In 1991 the 944 S2 was discontinue but the 968 was waiting in the wings to make its debut.

Porsche has been busy working on a replacement model for sometime which originally was going to be called the 944 S3 but with so many new features they thought it was better to actually give it an entire new image.

It hit the market retaining all of the great things of the 944 and added all the great new features. If you thought the 944 looked great the 968 is even more impressive with its sleek new lines while still clearly keeping its 944 image.

It has fully integrated bumpers that are actually an extension of the Carrere 2, the air intakes have been rearranged, and it comes with pop up headlamps, red lenses neutral dense taillights, with the 968 lettering on the rear deck lid.

The 16 valve DOHC inline 4 cylinder aluminum block has plenty to offer with an amazing 236 HP at 6200 RPM. It has a compression ration of 8.3:1 and 13.1 lbs per horsepower. You can choose from a 6 speed manual transmission or 4 speed tiptronic.

The independent front has lower control arm, spring struts, and anti roll bar while the independent rear has semi trailing arms, anti roll bar, and transverse torsion bars.

Fuel consumption isn't really great but there are worse. It gets 17 MPG in the city and 25 MPG on the highway. Of course this is the type of car you want to get out on the road and let loose.

Since its beginning in 1913 Germany, the Bavarian Motor Works corporation (BMW) has been synonymous with quality and craftsmanship. But while BMW is normally associated with cars, it actually began its operations making airplane engines until the time that aircraft production was banned in Germany in 1919 under the Treaty of Versailles. Turning its attention to other modes of transportation in order to sustain the business, BMW was soon poised to begin production on the BMW motorcycle in 1923.

Such production stemmed from the company’s experience in aeroengineering; allowing them to get to work on what would become the famous BMW boxer engine. This boxer engine - which has been redesigned and reconstructed several times prior to reaching this place of effective operation - in combination with aluminum-alloy cylinders and a flat twin engine make up the R 32, the first BMW motorcycle and the model for future designs.

Wins Top Award Jaguar XF

The new Jaguar XF has won the coveted What Car magazine Car of the Year 2008 award, beating off stiff competition from rivals BMW and Mercedes.

What Car stipulate that the winner of the award "must have done more than anything else from the past 12 months to move things on".

Jaguar is a mere cottage industry alongside the mighty Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz. Yet its replacement for the retro styled S-Type was considered to have beaten the best the company's German rivals could offer.

This is even more of an achievement when set against the backdrop of uncertainty over Jaguar's future, with the sale of the company by owners Ford now imminent - most likely to Indian motor group Tata.

The magazine singled out in particular the way the XF out-drives the previously unbeatable BMW 5 Series, which is saying something, but also manages to be more supple on poor surfaces.

Jaguar XK The Lightweight Supercar

Jaguar's new XK supercar is a stunning looking car, bound to turn heads wherever goes. It has the beauty and sleekness of some of the old Jaguars of the 1960s. Yet like those masterpieces, the real story of the new XK, and what sets it apart from its competitors is what lurks beneath the paintwork.

No, this time it is not some sensational engine, as it was with the XK120, but the fact that the body is made from aluminum - like the new Jaguar XJ.

The idea of using aluminum – Honda started the trend 15 years ago with the NSX, and was quickly followed by Audi with the A8 – is to reduce weight. Honda reduced a lot of weight with the NSX sports car – the body was 40 per cent lighter than if had been made from steel.

Aluminum bodies last longer than steel ones because the metal does not corrode like steel, and they also absorb crash impact well – so they are safe. Now, several auto companies use aluminum for some body parts, but Jaguar is a world leader in making cars from aluminum sheet and extrusions.

Jaguar XK Motor Car

of the best things about the Jaguar XK is that the car is incredibly easy to control. The XK features an aluminum shell that is lighter and stronger than the steel that is used in most cars. The aluminum alloy body shell is rivet-bonded, a monocoque design that increases stiffness, reduces weight, and improves road performance. The design also uses a clever Computer Active Technology Suspension that detects the contours of the road and adjusts the car for the optimum ride. The four-wheel antilock brakes and TracDSC feature to improve stability during cornering adding to the driving pleasure.

Safety in the XK may easily be overlooked when compared to the cars performance, but it has by no means been forgotten. Ventilated anti-lock disc brakes are used on all four wheels, with oversized discs in the XKR coupe. The disc sizes are are sized to match engine power. The pressure in each tire is continuously monitored. Adaptive Restraint Technology deploys front airbags according to passenger weight, and crash severity, while side airbags help protect front occupants in certain side collisions. And for the convertible model, sensors deploy high-strength aluminum hoops in case of rollover, creating a shield zone to help protect passengers.

The Luxury Sports Car

The XJ employs a clever system of protecting the driver. Pre-tensioned 3-point safety belts serve all seating positions, and energy absorbent seats help guard front passengers. Driver and passenger airbags are deployed according to a number of factors including occupant position, weight and safety belt use, and side curtain airbags drop from above doors to help shield occupants. A similar concept to oxygen masks coming down on aircraft. Built into the car´s aluminum body are crumple zones and a rigid safety cell. Traction control varies power to wheels to limit slip. Four-channel anti-lock brakes, largest in the XJR and Super V8, stop the car with confidence and in treacherous conditions the braking force at each wheel is varied to help manage grip. Just like the other Jaguar cars, individual tire pressure is continuously monitored, even the spare.
Every XJ has a V8 engine under the hood. A standard engine is powerful; a 4.2L aluminum V8 engine with 300 horsepower. It uses cam phasing to increase response with lower emissions. Advanced versions of the XJ feature higher performance engines. The R model features a supercharger with 400 horsepower.
